What Does It Mean to Close a Monastery? (Short Film)

The public radio station in Salt Lake City, KUER, as part of their RadioWest project produced a short film To Close a Monastery, about the closing of the Abbey of Our Lady of the Holy Trinity, a Trappist Cistercian monastery in Huntsville, Utah. At its height, the monastery was home to 84 monks who sold bread, multigrain cereal, and honey to support their ministry. After 70 years, the remaining monks celebrated their final Mass on August 27, 2017. The film is five minutes long.

Almighty ever-living God, who made the Abbot Saint Benedict an outstanding master in the school of divine service, grant, we pray, through his intercession that, putting nothing before love of you, we may hasten with a pure heart in the way of your commands. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
