Novena to Saint Joseph, Husband of Mary, Day 7

Image
Saint Joseph truly followed the will of God. When an angel came to Joseph and told him about Mary and the child she was carrying, Joseph took Mary as his wife. He did so without any questions, doubt or hesitation. He knew God's will for him, and he chose to accept it and live for the glory of Jesus Christ. Today we pray that we may all be more like St. Joseph; more open to the will of God in our own lives. Let us pray for clarity in our discernment and for the confidence St. Joseph had as we choose to follow God's will. Day 7 - St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Novena (For an audio/video version of this prayer go here .) Saint Joseph, you are the faithful protector and intercessor of all who love and venerate you. You know that I have confidence in you and that, after Jesus and Mary, I come to you as an example for holiness, for you are especially close with God. Therefore, I humbly commend myself, with all who are dear to me and all that belong to me, to your intercession.

On that day, an occasion of unrivaled joy, sin and death will be no more, and we shall see God face to face. The Novena to Saint Joseph Begins March 10, 2016

Image
The novena to Saint Joseph starts March 10th, leading to his feast day March 19th. We know Joseph was a man of faith, obedient to whatever God asked of him without knowing the outcome. St. Joseph is also a powerful patron. He is, as John Paul II called him, the Guardian of the Redeemer . He humbly accepted his role as guardian, husband and father in the Holy Family. Most everything we know about St. Joseph comes from Scripture. There is some disagreement about his genealogy, but both Mark and Matthew say his descent is from David, the greatest king of Israel — and yet, he was a humble carpenter. St. Joseph was clearly very close to our Lord and so we come to him through this novena with a sense of humility, in light of his own. We ask, in part, to be perfected in the virtues that St. Joseph exemplified. There are several feast days for Saint Joseph, but March 19th has been the one most celebrated in Western Christianity. [Of course, you may pray a novena to him anytime.] Clic

The Seven Sorrows and Seven Joys of Saint Joseph

Image
The month of March is dedicated to the guardian of the Redeemer and the Blessed Virgin's spouse, St. Joseph. Among the many exercises of piety practiced in honor of St. Joseph, there is one generally known, namely, that of meditating on his Seven Sorrows and Seven Joys. This devotion owes its origin to a celebrated event, never omitted by any historian of the Saint. [Additional links at end of post.] It is as follows: Two Fathers of the Franciscan order were sailing along the coast of Flanders, when a terrible tempest arose, which sank the vessel, with its three hundred passengers. The two Fathers had sufficient presence of mind to seize hold of a plank, upon which they were tossed to and fro upon the waves, for three days and nights. In their danger and affliction, their whole recourse was to St. Joseph, begging his assistance in their sad condition. The Saint, thus invoked, appeared in the habit of a young man of beautiful features, encouraged them to confide in his assist

The Month of March is Dedicated to Saint Joseph

The month of March is dedicated to Saint Joseph. We don't know much about him except what is mentioned in the Gospels. Joseph was the husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the foster-father of Jesus. Holy Scripture proclaims him as a "just man," and the Church has turned to Joseph for his patronage and protection. Pope Leo XIII in his encyclical Quamquam Pluries (On the Devotion to St. Joseph) in 1889 explains why we place so much trust in this saint: "Thus in giving Joseph the Blessed Virgin as spouse, God appointed him to be not only her life's companion, the witness of her maidenhood, the protector of her honor, but also, by virtue of the conjugal tie, a participator in her sublime dignity. And Joseph shines among all mankind by the most august dignity, since by divine will, he was the guardian of the Son of God and reputed as His father among men. Hence it came about that the Word of God was humbly subject to Joseph, that He obeyed him, and that He rend
