The Connection Between Hitler and Margaret Sanger

Image
The National Socialist German Workers' Party, or Nazi Party, greatly admired the policies and practices of the American eugenics movement advanced by Margaret Sanger and her fellow Progressives. In fact, Hitler received some of his most maniacal and destructive ideas directly from Sanger. The Nazi’s literally lifted the "Final Solution" from the blueprints and example of America’s eugenicists. This is the Hitler Margaret Sanger connection that most contemporary observers ignore. Today, if you pick up a Planned Parenthood brochure you get the impression its founder Margaret Sanger, was a champion of choice. She wanted all woman to decide whether, and how many, children to have. The real Margaret Sanger was opposed to choice. Her personal slogan, published in her magazine Birth Control Review , embodies her mission: "More children from the fit. Fewer children from the unfit. This is the chief aim of birth control." Margaret Sanger said, if you are unfit then

Saint Francis and the Six-Winged Seraph

Image
In early August 1224, Saint Francis of Assisi, accompanied by three fellow friars, ascended Mount La Verna where the later would pray an extended vigil ending on the Feast of St. Michael the Archangel. In the morning light of September 17th, Francis beheld a six-winged Seraph, [angel] whose wings were aflame, imprint him with the Holy Stigmata and assume the likeness of Christ Crucified. Here are excerpts from a reflection by Br. Vincent Mary Carrasco via Catholic Chowder . ______________________________________ Saint Francis Receives the Stigmata of Christ Br. Vincent Mary Carrasco, O.F.M.Cap. "According to the writings of Saint Bonaventure, Saint Francis was 'led by divine providence to a high place apart called Mount La Verna.' (FAED II, Ch. 12) Two years before his death, in what was his usual custom of fasting for 40 days in honor of Saint Michael the Archangel, Saint Francis would 'experience more abundantly than usual an overflow of the sweetness

St. Francis of Assisi’s Canticle of the Sun

By Saint Francis of Assisi Most high, all-powerful, all good, Lord! All praise is yours, all glory, all honour And all blessing. To you alone, Most High, do they belong. No mortal lips are worthy To pronounce your name. All praise be yours, my Lord, through all that you have made, And first my lord Brother Sun, Who brings the day; and light you give to us through him. How beautiful is he, how radiant in all his splendour! Of you, Most High, he bears the likeness. All praise be yours my Lord, through Brothers Wind and Air, And fair and stormy, all the weather's moods, By which you cherish all that you have made. All praise be yours, my Lord, through Sister Water, So useful, lowly, precious and pure. All praise be yours, my Lord, through Brother Fire, Through whom you brighten up the night. How beautiful is he, how gay! Full of power and strength. All praise be yours my Lord, through Sister Earth, our mother Who feeds us in her sovereignty and produces Various fr

St. Francis of Assisi on the Essence of Holiness

Men lose all the material things they leave behind them in this world, but they carry with them the reward of their charity and the alms they give. For these, they will receive from the Lord the reward and recompense they deserve.  — St. Francis of Assisi ______________________________________ Prayer for St. Francis of Assisi’s Intercession O God, by whose gift Saint Francis was conformed to Christ in poverty and humility, grant that, by Francis' intercession we may follow your Son, and, through joyful charity, come to be united with you. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Saint Francis of Assisi, Mystic and Founder

Image
Memorial - October 4th Saint Francis of Assisi, the 13th century Italian friar, preacher. and stigmatic, who founded the Franciscan Order, is perhaps the best-known saint of the Catholic Church. Indeed, Francis is one of the most venerated religious figures in history. It has been said that of all the holy individuals the Church has canonized, it is this "poor man of Assisi" who most closely resembled Christ Himself. In humility Francis never accepted the priesthood, but remained a deacon his entire life. So much has been written about Francis that the basic outline of his story is well known. Born into wealth and privilege in the town of Assisi, Italy in 1181, this handsome and popular young man spent his youth in living selfishly. Intent on seeking fame, Francis embarked on an ill-fated bale with the neighboring town of Perugia. When that failed, he set off instead on the Fourth Crusade, but never got further than one day’s ride from Assisi. As the result of a drea

Sour Grapes: A Reflection for the Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year A

Image
By Fr. René J. Butler, M.S. Provincial Superior, La Salette Missionaries of North America (Isaiah 5:1-7; Philippians 4:7-9; Matthew 21:33-43) Since ancient times, the lands of the Middle East and the Mediterranean have cultivated vineyards. So it is not surprising that the image of the vineyard recurs in their literature. A famous instance is in one of Aesop’s Fables, which gives us the expression “sour grapes,” describing the tendency to disparage what we want but cannot have. Isaiah’s parable of the vineyard uses the same image, but in a much different way. Translations vary: the grapes are wild, or bitter, or sour, even rotten. God expresses his disappointment with the rulers of his people, who have failed to produce the fruits of justice and right judgment. Jesus tells his own parable of the vineyard. The problem is not with the grapes, but with the tenant farmers who refuse to give the produce to the owner, and even kill the owner’s son. Immediately after this pas

Saint Gerard of Brogne, Benedictine Abbot

Image
Feast Day - October 3rd Historically it is the feast of Saint Gerard of Brogne who was born in the county of Namur. He trained for the army, as a page of the count of Namur he was sent on a special mission to the French court. He stayed in France and soon entered the Benedictines of St. Denis. After some eleven years he was ordained priest, and left for Belgium in order to found a new abbey on his own estate of Brogne. He was its abbot for twenty-two years, introducing St. Benedict's Rule into numerous houses in Flanders, Lorraine and Champagne. He was noted for his devoutness. St. Gerard entered this world blessed with the advantages of noble birth and a naturally pleasing disposition which made him universally liked, yet he saw through the emptiness of a worldly life. Upon returning from a hunting trip one day, he retreated to a chapel, where he sighed, "How happy are they who have no other obligation but to praise the Lord night and day, and who live always in His

Feast of the Guardian Angels

Image
Memorial - October 2nd Each person on earth has a guardian angel who watches over and guides us to attain salvation. It has been a common theological opinion that this angelical guardianship begins at the moment of birth; prior to this, the child would be protected by the mother's guardian angel. But this is not certain, and since we now know that the soul is infused at the moment of conception, it may be that the angelic guardianship also begins at that moment. In any case, this protection continues throughout our whole life and ceases only when our probation on earth ends, namely, at the moment of death. Our guardian angel accompanies our soul to purgatory or heaven, and will become our coheir in the Kingdom of Heaven. Angels appear as early as the Book of Genesis and continuously carry out God’s will throughout the Old Testament. In the New Testament, Mary is visited by an angel (Archangel Gabriel) at the Annunciation, and Jesus Himself talks about them in the Gospel of

St. Therese of Lisieux on the Wisdom of the Saints

Image
Archimedes said: 'Give me a lever and a fulcrum, and I will raise the world.' What he was unable to obtain because his request had but a material end and was not addressed to God, the Saints have obtained in full measure. For fulcrum, the Almighty has given them Himself, Himself alone! for lever, prayer, which enkindles the fire of love; and thus, it is that they have uplifted the world, thus it is that saints still militant uplift it, and will uplift it till the end of time. — St. Therese of Lisieux, Story of A Soul , Chapter XI ______________________________________ Prayer for St. Therese of Lisieux’s Intercession Almighty God, you open your Kingdom to those who are humble and to little ones, lead us to follow trustingly in the little way of Saint Therese, so that through her intercession we may see your eternal glory revealed. Through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son, who reigns with you and with the Holy Spirit. Amen.
